About Glenwood
How Glenwood Got Its Name

The origin of the name Glenwood is by no means clear.  Here is the story which is most often heard.
Because of the large number of Holly trees which grew along the right-of-way, the railroad men gave the new depot the name Holly.  The depot was known by this name until April 8, 1909. When a post office was opened, the postmaster and people began to look for a name for the whole town.  Holly and Hollywood were both tried, but there was another Hollywood on the same G&FS RR line.  Greenwood was tried with the same results, another Greenwood.  Not to be outdone by anyone, the mill people from Texas got together to choose a name; if they could not have Greenwood, why not Glenwood.
